A journey between life and death, between hope and pain, between sweetness and desperation. Continuously slipping between the two cities of Ancona and Aleppo, the verses of Non c’è il mare ad Aleppo take a journey through memory and roots: the war, the rubble, the suffering, but also life, the future and love. Each poem is a sad song and at the same time enlightened by a look towards the future: the look of eyes that have seen and become witnesses of horror, but precisely for this reason they know how to find sweetness around them. The war in Syria, destruction and death are certainly central themes, but they cannot obscure the humanity and the enthusiasm that a heart can feel. With verses imbued with delicacy, Asmae Dachan manages to outline the most tragic feelings and experiences, teaching the reader that only through memory can one move towards the future.
