Marie Reine is nine years old when, in a coup d’état, the third in three years, Thomas Sankara takes power in Upper Volta, now Burkina Faso. Her father, Andre Toe, is an important official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, closely tied to the old regime. For this reason, he will be a victim of the excesses of the Revolution, stripped of his possessions and his dignity. Marie Reine finds herself forced to deal with poverty and the ostracism of a nation in turmoil, until she is offered the opportunity to come to Italy. But arriving in Italy is only the beginning of a journey made of losses and discoveries, friendships and degradation, which will lead her to understand that she is throwing away her life and to decide to break, once again, with the past.
