Four boys – G, Ernesto, Álex and Munir – cross Spain on their way to the South of France to work as seasonal workers in the grape harvest. Their intention is to gain experience, to put themselves to the test for the first time. Once they arrive, however, they discover that the grape harvest will not take place due to the drought that has ruined production. They therefore find themselves having to make an immediate choice: go back or stay there and take the first job they find. They decide to stay. While they spend their days in a campsite drinking warm beer and eating poor food, they begin a gloomy and at times comical descent into the underworld of piecework, between crumbling provincial farms, where the exploitation of workers is obvious, and large biotech companies where ethical codes only serve to hide reality. A genre-blending novel, Cose vive is a literary eco-thriller, an explosive punk mix in which we follow the misadventures of four young people grappling with precarious work, extreme capitalism, immigration and mass production applied to living things.
